Nicolette and Lewis O’Rordian was about to move back to South Africa in 2008. Nicolette contacted us all the way from Ireland to request Mapogo Membership. That South Africa is home to citizens that are responsible for the most senseless and violent crimes in the world is well-known abroad. Nicolette and Lewis needed some form of peace of mind; they were bringing their two young daughters to live in their home country.
We met with Nicolette at their new home in Randburg, the family took up Mapogo Membership and the signage went up:” This property is protected by…” You know the sign.
Approximately two years later we received a surprising call from the O’Rordian family. They were terminating their Mapogo Membership. Why? It made no sense; they had always been satisfied to make their monthly membership contribution despite the fees of a third party company providing armed response services in the area. Had they lost confidence in what we stood for?
The agreement with our members includes returning the Mapogo signage upon termination of the membership service. We returned for one last visit to the O’Rordian family, we hadn’t seen Nicolette since putting up her Mapogo Membership sign boards. She handed the signage to us, with obvious fond sentiment. See, it was never necessary to launch an investigation of any kind.
This is what Nicolette told us: they were moving to Canada. But the conversation didn’t stop there. Having been a stay-at-home mother she’d sit on the porch with her new-born, soaking up the South African sun we all know and love. Naturally she had time to get to know the neighborhood’s comings and goings. What she said next made me smile from ear to ear and will stay with me forever. Pedestrians would saunter ever so casually up and down the street, but for Nicolette’s house. There they’d hurriedly scamper past, set in motion by the fierce Mapogo reputation.
